Blasts at a Ukrainian arms depot follow days of mass drone and missile attacks

Filed

A Russian strike on a Ukrainian ammunition warehouse set off successive explosions and killed dozens of people, CNN reported on 29 August, citing Ukrainian officials, who put the preliminary toll at 38. The strike followed an overnight barrage on 28 August in which Ukraine's air force said Russia launched about 164 strike and decoy drones from several directions, including occupied Crimea and occupied Donetsk. Ukrainian officials said 137 were intercepted and that residential, energy and industrial sites were struck across at least seven regions, with deaths reported in the Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Casualty and damage assessments for both days were still being compiled. Figures in this dispatch are Ukrainian official claims and have not been independently verified.
