Russian assault on Slovyansk shifts to the eastern approaches after the Lyman push stalls

Filed

Russian forces have moved the weight of their offensive toward Slovyansk from the eastern and south-eastern directions, having failed to break toward the city from the north-east through Lyman earlier in the summer, the Institute for the Study of War said in assessments published on 28 and 30 August. Ukrainian forces were separately reported to have made limited gains north-east of Kharkiv city. Day-to-day changes along both axes remain small, and neither side's claims of movement have been independently verified. Russia's defence ministry said on 28 August that it had carried out a training launch of a solid-propellant mobile intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Oblast. It did not identify the missile.
